CP Pump Systems delivers movement to the leading chemical company

News

The mobile pump unit with the magnetic-drive CP pump was a solution offered as a complete package with ATEX approval for mobile use.

For the current application, the mobile pump is used via an emergency power supply to empty the storage/reaction tank in case of a power blackout in the plant because the media (chlorinated and fluorinated compounds) tend to react strongly. The mobile unit operates in explosion zone 2 (potentially explosive atmosphere); the innermost of the connected vessels is stage-3 inertised (non-explosive atmosphere).

The pipes and tanks in the existing plant are lined with enamel; however, the customer chose less impact-sensitive materials such as PTFE/PFA (lining) for the fittings and sensors on mobile devices.

To protect the fragile glass columns in the plant, the pump controller features pressure measurement with an automatic cut-off, which reliably switches off the pump on reaching the adjustable maximum pressure (pmax). Furthermore, a motor, temperature or dry running monitoring system is integrated that detects operating faults (e.g. motor overload, reaching of the presetted limit temperature or empty suction line) and reliably switches off the pump.

Sealless magnetic drive pumps are well suited to the high requirements of the chemical industry. These highly developed and extraordinarily energy-efficient pumps can pump all types of liquid media reliably and safely, because they are hermetically-sealed.

The mobile centrifugal pump version offers the CP advantages of magnetic-drive chemical process pumps with monitoring and production control. These units are available with various options for connections, pipelines, monitoring (containment shell temperature, liquiphant, manometer, etc.) and materials.

In addition, they can be supplied in different ignition protection classes. All necessary proofs and approvals are issued by a certified authority. The MKP has a compact design with little dead space. In addition, it consists of just a few robust individual parts. The intelligent modular system makes assembly easier and reduces the costs for spare parts, maintenance and repair to a minimum.

The MKPL system is coated with high quality, corrosion and diffusion-resistant PFA. The thick PFA lining is anchored vacuum-tight to the metal casing by means of armature slots. The robust and suitable-to-ceramic design of the pure SSiC bearings (sintered silicon carbide) leads to maximum operational safety and reliability of the pumps. Plain and thrust bearings are secured with polygonal form-fit, self-centring anti-rotation devices.
